Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum is currently hiring for a Mechanic Position.

Description:
Repair and operation of steam locomotives, diesel locomotives and a variety of other vintage railroad equipment and Foundation owned historical collection. Able to properly operate and maintain powered machinery in safe condition, as well as understand a variety of manual machinery and tooling. Be able to read and understand blueprints. Must have proficiency operating variety of powered machinery and tools.
Qualifications:
Minimum of two years’ experience (additional experience preferred) in machine shop or apprentice position.
CNC experience is optional but not required.
Willing to work on ladders, platforms, scaffolding, manlifts or on rail mounted equipment.
Have knowledge of powered machinery, tools and other equipment.
Be able to work well and interact with other employees and public.
Willing to take a hands-on test during interview process if asked.
Work Environment:
Wage is hourly, rate will be commensurate with work experience.
Full-time; 40 hours per week; occasional extra hours or weekend work for special events.
Monday through Friday; 7:00am to 3:30pm; 30-minute lunch.
Able to work in loud shop atmosphere with dust, paint, soot and other airborne particles.
Must possess a current, valid driver’s license.

Internship Opportunities
At the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum self-motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate and graduate students can gain hands on experience by helping with a wide range of duties. Interns interested in public history, steam railroading, or physical science can build a custom experience and take advantage of opportunities to participate in all facets of the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum as a museum and public history site.
Interns will have opportunities to work in our restoration shop, develop and deliver interpretive programs for guided tours, gain experience with visitor services, and work with our administrative team to gain a better understanding of how public history sites operate.
Students interested in pursuing summer internships (May-August) should submit resume, cover letter, and references to info@ageofsteamroundhouse.org We will begin accepting applications in the fall of each year for the following summer.
