Good morning everyone,
I hope that this email finds you, your family, friends and neighbors safe and healthy.
I am sure you are already aware that the State of Ohio has extended its stay-at-home directive until May 1, 2020. This did not come as any surprise and we were prepared for the eventuality that we would not be returning to business as usual anytime soon. The extension of the directive has required us to now postpone the beginning of our tour season for 2020. We will be cancelling all tours for the month of May. It is looking increasingly likely that we will have to take a month-to-month approach towards when we open. When we do open, we will be doing so in accordance with the guidance provide by the State health department to insure your health and safety and that of our visitors and volunteers.
The Board has already, as you know, determined to pay staff through the beginning of May. As the month of April progresses, and if it looks likely the stay-at-home order will be extended beyond May 1, I will reach out to the Board about next steps in insuring that staff is in place and ready to work when reopening occurs. We have already begun the process of applying for some of the benefits associated with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that will help mitigate the economic impact on the Foundation.
We will be using the month of April to build up our virtual tour and exhibit offerings as well as our online learning opportunities. Many of you have reached out to ask how you can be of help, so Tim and I have worked up a schedule to allow staff to work on “Minimum Basic Operations” as allowed by the Governor’s order through the month of April. This is entirely voluntary and you do not have to take part. Tim will reach out to you today to discuss this.
I know that these are very difficult times for everyone but I want to assure you that the Foundation is here to support you and your families in whatever way we can. Personally, I want to thank everyone for their ideas on new and innovative ways of fulfilling our mission that, without this situation, we may not have considered. You are a great team and I am very excited for when we can once again get together and do what we do best.
Thanks and please stay safe,
Mr. Noel B. Poirier
