Special Museum Store Holiday Hours & Events

Museum Store Hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am - 2 pm, November 21 - December 20 (except Thanksgiving week)

The steam locomotives may be slumbering in the Roundhouse but that does not mean that there’s nothing to see at the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum this winter. Holiday shopping hours, a model train layout, speaker series and a visit with Santa are all planned for the winter of 2019 – 2020 at the Museum.

The Museum Depot Store at the Roundhouse will be open for special holiday shopping hours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am-2 pm beginning on 11/21 through 12/20, except for the week of Thanksgiving when the store will be closed 11/28 and 11/29. During these holiday hours we will be welcoming Division 1 Mid-Central Region National Model Railroad Association (The Akron-Canton-Youngstown Division) to display their modular layout in our Museum Depot Store. The organization will be staffing the layout with volunteers to run their trains throughout our holiday shopping hours and winter programs.

The Museum will also be presenting a Winter Speaker Series once a month, starting in December, highlighting different aspects of railroad history and the Roundhouse. The first speaker will be architect Ted Goodman who designed the Age of Steam Roundhouse. Mr. Goodman will discuss the design process and construction of the Roundhouse from its foundation to its roof. His lecture will be Wednesday, December 11 at 6 pm at the Age of Steam Roundhouse Depot. Future talks will be posted on the Roundhouse’s website and social media. The lecture is free, but those interested in attending should pre-register via the Roundhouse’s website. Click here for details.

What would the Christmas holiday season be without a visit with Santa Claus? The jolly old elf will be making an appearance for pictures at the Roundhouse on Saturday, December 14 from 12 pm to 2 pm. Visitors should bring their own cameras or phones to take their picture. There will also be an opportunity to make a take-home Christmas ornament to remember the visit. Pictures with Santa are only $5 per child and an additional $5 if they wish to make an ornament and tickets can be purchased in advance via the Roundhouse website and on-site the day of the event. Click here for tickets.
